The Arkansas NF Endurance team ran the Hogeye marathon. Pete Tanguay ran the marathon, Kate Dilbeck ran the half marathon (and the first leg of the relay) along with other team members, Angela Turnbough, Hannah Turnbough, & Lesley Oslica.

April 15, 2012 was a stormy day in Fayetteville, AR! Many runners wondered if they would be re-routed off the marathon course as the storms approached. However, the NF Endurance Team members were able to finish the race and celebrate their accomplishments afterwards.

The relay team ran to participate in the Arkansas Grand Prix Series with the Conway Running Club and to raise awareness of neurofibromatosis (NF) in Arkansas.  NF is very common, yet often unheard of. There are hundreds of Arkansas NF Endurance Team members running races across the U.S. to help the Children’s Tumor Foundation advance their mission to END neurofibromatosis. Team Pasta party: (RSVP by Wednesday, Feb 29)
Save the date for the NF Endurance Team Pasta party. It will be held at 5:30 pm, Saturday, March 3rd at Arkansas Children’s Hospital East Campus Building (on the corner of 10th & Children’s Way). It’s a great way to meet your team, NF Heroes, and be inspired! (pasta party is free to fundraisers, and $10 per person otherwise.)

Team Picture:
Let’s get the NEON nation together outside coral C around 7:30 a.m. before the race for a team photo. All participants and cheer support team are welcome.

Course Support:
We will have Team volunteers at the start line and along the course if you need to shed jackets or other apparel. Volunteers will take all clothing that is collected from their team mates back to the finishers tent where you can pick it up. (be sure to put your name in your clothing that you might shed along the way).

Cheer Zone/Volunteer area:
All volunteers and Cheer support team are asked to meet at the corner of 2nd & Broadway between 7:30 – 7:45 am. (Be sure to have your NEON volunteer shirt on…layer over clothing if needed). Our job will not only be to cheer on our team, but be on the look out for 10K runners and direct them to turn right on 2nd. We will also need to help move cones as needed during high runner traffic times (or as directed by course commandos). We should be finished by 10:00 at which time volunteers are invited to join the team at the NF Team Finishers Tent for a burger/hot dog and drinks – or make their way to other areas of the course to cheer on their favorite marathoner.

Team Finishers Tent:
All participants & volunteers are invited to meet their friends/families at the NF Endurance Team Finishers tent to celebrate your accomplishments. Team Volunteers will be preparing freshly grilled burgers and hot dogs along with other refreshments – free for you and your supporters who join us in our team colors…NEON.

 Hotels:
If anyone is still in need of a hotel, the NF Endurance office has a block of hotel rooms. Please contact Chrissie Conner’s at the NFE Office cconnors@ctf.org as soon as possible to arrange getting a hotel room in your name.

Friends/personal support:
If you have friends coming to cheer you on, please invite them to join the NF Cheer zone (mentioned above) at the corner of 2nd & Broadway. Volunteer/Cheer support team shirts can be picked up at the NF Expo booth (Friday or Saturday by 4) or team pasta party between 5:30 pm & 7:00 pm.

Expo Booth:
Please stop by and see us at the NFE Expo booth! We will have a few extra singlets (in case you need to change sizes), volunteer shirts for those that ordered them, and answer any last questions about race day.

There are several ways you, too, can participate in this event – as NF Endurance Team runners, walkers, and cheer supporters along the course of the marathon. All of these areas are very important to our Marathon Team. We understand that not everyone is a marathon runner. However, having enthusiastic people on the sidelines cheering us on as we go by gives us the motivation to continue running.

Our primary goal is to raise money for NF research. However, we also want to bring awareness to a condition that has impacted our lives. If you would like to help us raise money for research, then you can also join the team as fundraisers. Any area of participation is important to this cause and to our CTF of AR Marathon Team.

Here are a few marathon-related events that we are very excited about. We’re still trying to verify all of the details, and we will post the most recent information as soon as it’s available to us.

Team Pasta Party – Night before the marathon to meet and greet runners, walkers, and cheer supporters. Everyone is invited to attend.
Marathon Celebration – At the end of the marathon at the NF Team tent where we will cook burgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings.
Mini-medical Symposia -  For NF Families – more details to follow!

Fred Brown
I am a DAD, who is excited to be able to dance in the Children’s Tumor Foundation’s – Dancing with Our Stars Event in honor of my daughter who has neurofibromatosis. Our family has attended every gala in support of our NF Hero – hoping to make a difference for her, and all those with NF.

Jacob Jones
You may know Jacob Jones from Jones & Son Fine Jewelry, he is also on the board of directors of the Wolfe Street Foundation and was chair of Oscar Night America 2011. Jacob was asked to dance and accepted to help the Children’s Tumor Foundation to hopefully be an extension of the philanthropy work that he and his father annually give as the “official jeweler” of Arkansas Children’s Hospital’s Miracle Ball.

Rob Lambert
When I’m not dancing, I am a cardiologist in North Little Rock, husband to a beautiful lady, and the proud father of five children. My daughter, Eleanor, has neurofibromatosis; it is for her and finding a cure for her disease that I dance.

 

 

Aiyana Cristal
My name is Aiyana Cristal and I am originally from Tacoma Washington but my career has moved me all over the country and the latest stop is here in Little Rock. I am a Sports Anchor/Reporter at KTHV and I am excited to be a part of Dancing with Our Stars especially since it’s for a great cause. I think it is extremely important to Help the Children’s Tumor Foundation find a cure.

Leah Thorvilson
I am from Minnesota and moved to Little Rock in 1999 on a track and cross country scholarship at UALR. After college I found my passion for running increased with the distance, and I began running marathons professionally. I am currently training to compete in the US Olympic Trials Marathon, which will determine the 3 women who will go on to the 2012 summer Olympics in London. Trying to live out my dream as a runner has required a lot of emotional and financial support from sponsors and the community. Because of this, I try to give back through my abilities any way I can. I am honored to have been asked to participate in Dancing with Our Stars, and know that our efforts will help to find a cure for NF.

Angelica Rogers
I am the wife of John, mother of Lexie, John Matthew and Gabriel. I am passionate about many causes, heart disease, cancer, the arts, at risk youth and now the Children’s Tumor Foundation. I have a special young friend with neurofibromatosis and I am dancing for her!
